Ensenada sweeps doubleheader against Truenos

The Ensenada Marineros swept a doubleheaded Sunday against the Tijuana Truenos by scores of 3-2 and 3-0. In the first game, all five runs were scored in the sixth inning. Eduardo Rojo got the win and Nelson Hiraldo took the loss. Ensenada scored all its runs in the top of the sixth. In the second game, Two wild pitches by Thunder starter Oscar Rivera helped the Marineros score their first two runs. Ensenada's Junior Guerra gave up only one hit in seven innings to notch the victory. The Truenos are now 8-8 for the season.

Burgos' 3-run HR lifts Thunder over Cotton Growers, 5-4

Francisco Burgos hit a three-run homer to break a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning and drove in another run in the first inning to lead the Tijuana Truenos to a 5-4 victory over the San Luis Algodoneros on Thursday night. Randall Simon added a solo homer for visiting Tijuana. Started Jeiler Castillo took the victory and Jesús Pirella got a save. The loss went to Carlos Domínguez.
The Truenos, managed by former Dodger star Pedro Guerrero, are now 8-6.

Robert Vazquez homers twice to lead San Luis past Truenos, 8-7

Robert Vázquez Armas hit a pair of solo homers Wednesday to lead the San Luis Cotton Growers past the Tijuana Truenos 8-7 in the game played in Sonora state. The Algodoneros' scoring began in the first with Vázquez's first home run. They added a second run in the inning and a third run in the second when Edson García singled in Tijuanense Roberto Urías, who had doubled. After the Truenos' Rodolfo Amparo singled in Moisés Gutiérrez in the top of the third to make it 3-1, Patrick Brooks Jarret hit a two-run homer to make it 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth. An error that produced Trueno run, a run-scoring double by Francisco Burgos and a run-scoring single by Edgar Trejo cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the fifth. After the Cotton Growers scored two more in the bottom of the seventh, a sacrifice fly by the Truenos' Gregorio Angulo reduced the lead to 7-5 in the top of the eighth. But Vázquez hit another solo homer in the bottom of the inning, meaning the Truenos' two-run rally in the ninth came up short. San Luis reliever Pedro Ramírez González was the winner, while Truenos starter Iván Rivera was the loser. Geivy García picked up his second save of the season and his second in two days.

San Luis beats Truenos, 2-1

A failed suicide squeeze by the Tijuana Truenos that resulted in a double play helped the host San Luis Algodoneros to a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.
The Cotton Growers' Patrick Brooks started off the scoring with a homer off Tijuana starter Marco Antonio Rivas in the bottom of the second inning.
In the top of the seventh, the Truenos' Jean Carlo Rubalcava drove in the tying run off Venezuelan starter Carlos Rojas Aparcedo with a bases-loaded single. But a failed suicide squeeze by Iván Gamero that resulted in a double play killed the rally.
The Algodoneros scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth when the Truenos' Rodolfo Amparo could not hold onto a fly into right field.
The Truenos had men on first and third with one out in the ninth but could not score. Geivy García got the save, San Luis reliever Mario Zapari got the win and Tijuana reliever Manuel Bello the loss.

Truenos score 8 in 3rd to beat Mexicali, 8-0

The Tijuana Truenos scored eight runs in the bottom of the third and won the rubber game of their three-game series with Mexicali at Estadio Cerro Colorado on Sunday. Nelson Hiraldo won his second game of the season, giving up five hits and no walks in seven innings in the 8-0 contest. Iván Camaño took the loss. The Truenos' next game is Tuesday in San Luis Río Colorado against the Algodoneros. The Thunder, managed by former Dodger slugger Pedro Guerrero, now have a 7-4 record and are in first place.

Mexicali beats Thunder 10-6

Wellington Dotel's three-run homer in the top of the seventh helped lead Mexicali to a 10-6 victory over the Tijuana Truenos on Saturday at Estadio Cerro Colorado. Aguilucho reliever José Wilfredo Ramírez picked up the win, while Truenos reliever Irving Valdez took the loss.

Mendoza's 2-run HR leads Truenos past Mexicali

Victor Mendoza's two-run homer helped lead the Tijuana Truenos to a 6-3 victory over the Mexicali Aguiluchos (Eaglets) at Cerro Colorado Stadium on Friday night. Tijuana beats Ensenada, 5-4

Rodolfo Amparo homered and drove in two runs to lead the Tijuana Truenos to a 5-4 victory over the Ensenada Marineros on Thursday night. The visiting Truenos knocked Ensenada starter and loser Juan Rodríguez out of the game in the third inning. Iván Rivera got the win and Jesús Pirela the save. Story, El Mexicano (PDF).

Marineros defeat Thunder, 10-3, as Tijuana commits nine errors

Truenos' Hiraldo defeats Marineros Candelario 2-1 in pitchers' duel

Nelson Hiraldo struck out 12 and gave up one run on four hits over eight innings to pitch the Tijuana Truenos to a 2-1 victory over the Ensenada Marineros in the port city Tuesday. Alexis Candelario gave up two runs over six innings to take the loss. Omar Manzanares went 2-for-3 and drove in a run, while Isidro Piña went 1-for-4 and drove in the other. Thunder beat Sharks, 7-6, win series

Omar Manzanares went three for four and scored two run while Francisco Burgos singled in two runs in the Tijuana Truenos 7-6 victory over the Puerto Peñasco Sharks on Sunday. Manuel Bello Salvamento, who came on in the sixth with the score tied, won the game. Closer Julio César Terrazas gave up two runs int he ninth but still earned a save. Sharks edge Thunder 3-2

Jaime Lua singled in the winning run off reliever Nelson Hiraldo in the top of the eighth inning to give the visiting Puerto Peñasco Sharks a 3-2 win Saturday over the Tijuana Truenos. Reliever Francisco Esquivel took the loss.
Southpaw Isaac Morales gave up six hits over eight innings for the win and Irvin Domínguez got the save. Francisco Maturín doubled in a run and scored another for the Thunder, while Marcos Mosqueira went three for four. The final game of the series will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Estadio Cerro Colorado.

Truenos win first home game, 5-3, over Puerto Peñasco

Francisco Burgos broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring single in francisco burgos scoresthe bottom of the fifth and Rodolfo Amparo followed with an RBI grounder to lead the Tijuana Truenos to a 5-3 victory over the Puerto Peñasco Sharks at Estadio Cerro Colorado. Former Dodger slugger Pedro Guerrero notched his first home victory as manager of the Thunder. Pitcher Irving Valdés posted the win. The runs scored after Víctor Mendoza led off the fifth with a hit and Randall Simon was hit by losing pitcher Aldo Montes. Truenos beat Marineros 11-8 in Ensenada

Truenos lose season opener to Ensenada, 5-4

The Tijuana Truenos lost their season opener Wednesday night to the Ensenada Marineros 5-4 before 6,000 at Tijuana's Estadio Cerro Colorado. The game was the first managed by Pedro Guerrero, the former Los Angeles Dodger slugger who was recently hired by the Truenos. In the top of the first, Dominican pitcher Nelson Hiraldo loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter, then gave up a two-run, bases-loaded single to Luis Fonseca. A third run scored on a bad throw. Fonseca drove in another run with a hit in the second. Franciso Maturín drove in a run for the Truenos in the bottom of the fourth, but the Marineros scratched out another run in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, a bases-loaded wild pitch by Marineros reliever Hugo de León scored a run and was followed by a two-run single by Trueno Moisés Gutiérrez. The game ended with a Trueno stranded on third.
