Migrants, deportees block Mexicali border crossing to protest kidnappings

Migrants temporarily blocked the Mexicali border crossing on Wednesday to protest kidnappings that have been taking place, Frontera reported.

About 150 migrants, deportees, members of Ángeles sin Fronteras and some U.S. residents protested recent kidnappings in Mexicali where three deportees extorted of sums up to $10,000, the paper said.

The protesters gathered in front of Interior Ministry and state public security offices in Mexicali.

The paper said Sergio Tamai demanded that the United States stop deporting people at night and in the early morning, when they are more vulnerable to kidnappers.
