Man wanted in Pomona shooting captured in Ensenada

     Ruben Vargas, sought in the gang-related killing of a woman in Pomona, was captured in Ensenada, El Mexicano reported. Vargas, 37, was sought in the Feb. 3, 2011 shooting death of Lina Romero, 31, in Pomona, and in the death of another woman, Baja California media reported. Story, El Mexicano (PDF).

Teacher's body found burned in trunk of his car in Tijuana

      A middle school teacher's body was found burned in the trunk of his car in Tijuana, officials and the teacher's family told Frontera newspaper. The teacher, said to have also given basketball lessons, was not named. The teacher was one of five people killed in Tijuana since the weekend, the paper said — one in the Santa Fe neighborhood, two in double homicide, and one related to drug dealing.
