4 killed in Tijuana; at least 2 victims reportedly involved in drug peddling

Murder toll at 38 in September, 400 for year in city

Four people were reported killed within the space of 11 hours, El Mexicano newspaper reported on the front page. Two men were shot to death in the Felipa Velásquez neighborhood in the city's Sánchez Taboada district; the call came in around 9 p.m. Sunday. Half an hour later, a woman alleged to have been involved in drug peddling was reported shot to death in Colonia Libertad. At 8 a.m., a man was found strangled to death in El Bordo, the area surrounding the concerte-lined Tijuana River; officials said he was believed to have been involved in drug sales.

The number of violent deaths in Tijuana this year already is greater than last year, thanks in large part to a territorial fight among local drug dealers.
