Alleged killer of Chihuahua activist captured

Marisela Escobedo was shot to death in December 2010 in front of state offices

marisela escobedo    The Chihuahua state government reported that the alleged killer of Chihuahua anti-crime activist Marisela Escobedo has been captured, Mexican media reported. She was shot in the head in front of government offices on Dec. 16, 2010.
José Enrique "El Wicked" Jiménez Zavala, 29, was arrested at a Chihuahua city shopping center by state police on Thursday, Oct. 4. He was driving a vehicle, accompanied by his wife and two children, in addition to Luis Alberto Camacho Ramos, also known as "el Toker" and "Mexican." Camacho Ramos has a 9mm gun, while Jiménez Zavala had a .38. Story in Frontera (PDF).
The state prosecutor's office said Jiménez Zavala said she was killed under a pact between La Línea and the Zetas. Escobedo , 52, had been seeking the recapture of Sergio Barraza Bocanegra,
who killed Escobedo's daughter Rubí Marisol Frayre, 16. Jiménez Zavala said her protests in front of government offices were garnering too much negative publicity.
La Linea and Los Aztecas are both affiliated with the Juárez Cartel.
A year ago, the state came into possession of the murder weapon, which also was shown to also have been used in five slayings in August 2011.
Jiménez Zavala said he had been a member of "Los Aztecas" since 2003, when he was imprisoned in the United States. He said that after he was released, he distributed heroin and carried out assassinations. Authorities said he participated in the April 20, 2012 killings of 16 in El Colorado bar.

Ensenada policeman shot in forehead in his private vehicle

He had been detained by military in 2009 meth case

Ensenada policeman Ramón Becerril Oliveros, 51, was found dead in his private vehicle on Sunday. He had been shot in the forehead. A 9mm gun was found in the vehicle.

Becerril Oliveros had been detained along with eight others in September 2009 by the military. Eight were detained at the Rancho Tres Animales, site of a meth lab; Becerril was detained at him home, the rancho La Encantada, about a mile away. Witnesses said the military towed his car to the ranch. He apparently was arrested for illegal weapons possession, but the gun he had was registered with the military, El Vigia reported. Becerril was released from custody after 10 days, (PDF).

He had served in the municipality's police force 21 years, and was honored as policeman of the month in February 2009 by then-Mayor Pablo Alejo López Núñez. López Núñez honored him again in March 2010. Story, El Vigia. Story, Frontera.
