Frontera reports that 80% of 954 slayings in Tijuana in 2011, 2012 and 2013 are related to drug peddling

Last week, El Mexicano reported that two-thirds of the killings were related to drug peddling

     Following the reporting of 15 killings in Tijuana last week, Frontera newspaper quoted state officials as saying 80% of 954 slayings in the city in 2011, 2012 and 2013 were related to drug peddling.
     The paper ran a chart showing the number of killings per month beginning in January 2011. The total for 2011 was 469 and 2012 was 362, with 120 so far this year, a rate that would surpass the 2011 total. Story, Frontera (PDF). Jump.

Five killed, including man who was apparent target of kidnapping attempt, in Los Mochis; 4 escape from Sinaloa prison

     Five people were killed during an apparent kidnapping attempt in Los Mochis in Sinaloa state, Mexican media reported. Among those killed were the apparent target of the kidnapping, a policeman, and three gunmen involved in the kidnapping attempt.
     The apparent target of the kidnapping at 11:40 p.m. Sunday was Jesús Manuel Bojórquez Arellano; the dead policeman was identified as Juan Pablo Gaxiola Bejarano. Two of the dead gunmen were identified as Cosme Damián Pérez Sandoval and Óscar Fabián Pérez Velázquez.
     Meanwhile, four men escaped from prison in Culiacán. They were identified as Jesús Ramón Ortiz López, Heriberto Mariscal Navarrete, Jesús Alfredo Pacheco Piña, and César Javier Pérez Angulo.

Tijuana registers 15 slayings for week of March 18-24

        Frontera newspaper's Insecurity Barometer said there were 15 slayings for the week of March 18-24. There also were 23 vehicle thefts and 59 drug-possession arrests.
