Authorities say two-thirds of Tijuana's killings this year have had to do with drug peddling

Authorities told El Mexicano newspaper that two-thirds of Tijuana's 113 slayings this year have had to do with who controls drug peddling to customers in the city.
Abel Galván Gallardo, head of the state Attorney General Office's agency fighting organized crime, said the recent case in which a downtown bar owner's son was killed on Sixth Street illustrates what is happening. Galván said various groups are involved in the dispute over drug peddling, including the Sinaloa cartel.
In previous years, large-scale violence in Tijuana had to do with disputes over who would control the plaza and export drugs to the United States, as opposed to conflicts over which group would be selling small quantities of drugs to residents of Tijuana.
