2.2 tons of marijuana found in cemetery

The Mexican military announced that it had found 2.2 tons of marijuana hidden in a cemetery in Tamaulipas state. The pot was found in the community Los Villa Nueva in the municipality of Camargo. Story in Frontera (PDF).

Monterrey casino attacked with grenade, gunfire; no one apparently hurt

The Casino Revolución in Monterrey was attacked with gunfire and a grenade that apparently did not go off. Although there were initial reports of injuries, authorities told the media they had not encountered any injured people. Last year the casino was attacked with an explosive device that broke a window and badly damaged a car parked outside.
In August 2011, the Casino Royale in the city was set on fire as part an extortion scheme, killing 52 people. Story in Frontera (PDF).

Rosarito police official Alejandro Robledo was dismissed after he failed to turn over passwords for the department's Facebook page, Frontera reported. The department recently was taken over by Francisco Castro Trenti, the brother of Sen. Fernando Castro Trenti. Story, Frontera (PDF).

8 executed in Nuevo León; 7 found in 2 mass graves in Mexico state; 3 killed in Torreón

Eight people were reported executed in Nuevo León state, seven of them in the Monte
Verde neighborhood of the Juárez municipality. A woman also was killed in Guadalupe. In Mexico state, seven bodies were found in two mass graves that it took about a 40-minute walk to get to. Three people also were killed in Torreón's Rincón de la Merced neighborhood. Stories, Frontera (PDF).

Insecurity Barometer records 1 violent death for Tijuana during previous week

Frontera's Insecurity Barometer for Tijuana had one violent death for the week ending July 22. It also reported 40 vehicle thefts and 31 cases of drug possession.
