Eduardo García Barrios, the founder of the Orquestra de Baja California, has been director general of Choruses, Orchestras and Ensembles for the National Council for Culture and the Arts.
He will continue to head the Orquesta de Baja California and serve as a member of the board of the Centro de Artes Musicales in Tijuana.
President Enrique Peña Nieto visited the Centro de Artes Musicales in Tijuana in December and was so impressed that he said he wanted to replicate the system in the rest of the country.
García Barrios was named by Conaculta director Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, who also recently named Pedro Ochoa as director of the Tijuana Cultural Center.
